School of Pastoral Care

School of Pastoral Care Amalgamates with Order of St Luke

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the School of Pastoral Care (SPC), I am  pleased to announce that the amalgamation of SPC with The International Order of St Luke the Physician (OSL) has been completed.

SPC ceased to exist as a separate entity in November, 2006, however its ministry resources continue to be available from OSL, including the newly developed Healing Ministry Training Program.

Founded in 1958 by Agnes Sanford, the School of Pastoral Care continued uninterrupted for nearly 50 years.  SPC provided intensive hands-on introductory and advanced training in the Christian ministry of healing for medical professionals, lay persons and clergy during parish weekend events and a variety of retreat settings.  That ministry continues to be available from OSL.

For many years the School of Pastoral Care and The International Order of St Luke the Physician enjoyed a formal working relationship.  OSL provides on-going fellowship and support for its members through a network of chapters and regions across North America and beyond, sponsors healing missions and conferences, and publishes SHARING Magazine: A Journal of Christian Healing.  SPC shared a common mandate with OSL to see people healed in the power of the Risen Christ, and to restore healing to its place in worship services in the Christian church.

Thank you to all who participated in Schools of Pastoral Care over the years, and for the trust you placed in us to provide hands-on training for your work in the ministry of Christian healing.  I invite you to contact OSL for continued support and training.

The Reverend Charles Boole

On behalf of The International Order of St Luke the Physician (OSL) I am delighted to welcome the School of Pastoral Care (SPC) into the Order of St Luke family.  SPC's wealth of experience in providing hands-on training will allow OSL to offer new training opportunities to churches and individuals across North American.

I invite you to hold a Healing Ministry Training Program event in your church.

The amalgamation of SPC with the Order of St Luke will also provide enhanced growth opportunities for OSL members, and will expand leadership development.  The union creates a dynamic new ministry that will allow the Order of St Luke to provide rich new resources on a regular basis to support chapter events, weekend missions and conferences that will include hands-on training for members of the Order and others interested in healing.   It could also provide the regions and chapters with a way of attracting new members.

With a growing membership of approximately 7,000 in North America, The Order of St Luke welcomes the opportunity to enrich its outreach to lay persons, clergy, medical professionals and others who are interested in learning more about the ministry of Christian healing.  You are invited - and encouraged - to attend an Order of St Luke event to discover more about how Jesus continues to heal today.  Please visit our website at www.orderofstluke.org and if you need more information please feel free to contact me at any time.
